- Posted on Sep 1st 2009 9:35AM by Stephen Dowling
Rapper Jay-Z has announced a London show inbetween his support slots for Coldplay later this month. He will play the Roundhouse on Sept. 17, a relatively small venue for a rap star recently more used to headlining the Glastonbury Festival or playing venues such as the O2. The tickets go on sale on Friday (Sept. 4).
Jay-Z will support Chris Martin's band in Manchester on Sept. 12 and Glasgow on Sept. 16 before opening for the band at London's Wembley Stadium on Sept. 18 and 19. The gigs will follow his Sept. 11 release of the album 'The Blueprint 3'.
On Monday, footage of Jay-Z and wife Beyonce enjoying a free gig by indie favourites Grizzly Bear on Sunday as part of the Brooklyn pool party season hit the internet. In the video, viewable here, the hip hop star can be seen dancing to the band and chatting to his wife.
Jay-Z said to MTV on Monday: "I don't understand why people are always surprised to see me at shows!
"They're an incredible band," he told MTV. "The thing I want to say to everyone -- I hope this happens because it will push rap, it will push hip-hop to go even further -- what the indie-rock movement is doing right now is very inspiring. It felt like us in the beginning. These concerts, they're not on the radio, no one hears about them, and there's 12,000 people in attendance. And the music that they're making and the connection they're making to people is really inspiring."
Can we expect to see the Jigga checking out the Outcry Collective at the Camden Barfly after his gig? Only one way to find out...
