"She's what I call a meteor -- singers who entertain people for a while." --Tori Amos
While Amos insists "there's nothing wrong with" Lady GaGa's fame, she has little long-term hope for the pop star.

I must be getting old because I know who Tori Amos is but I have never heard of gaga. Then again I don't listen to Tori Amos or any other kind of chick music.

God....another hater....I'm in no way shape or form a "fan" of Gaga's music...but what has Tori Amos done in the past 15 years. Please...is this the only way she can get publicity? She's like a meteor? Sounds like your describing your own career Tori...except you burned up in the atmosphere before hitting earth. You've now been officially admitted into the Hater of the Month club. P.S...your music sucks.

she just knows from experience whats going to happen in the long run. face it in todays society music sucks i dont think 90 percent of the new artist are going to stick.

Rob-
Tori Amos has put out about 10 albums. She has a dedicated fan base, but gets zero airplay as she tends to have more of a cult following and limited mainstream appeal. Her latest album came out a month or two ago, and it's pretty good. The one before it was better.
I'm not sure of whom Lady Gaga is, but she has a stupid name that she obviously gave herself... Unless maybe her parents were mentally challenged. Who knows?
I don't know what kind of music she's putting out there, but it sounds as if she's one of those corporate pseudo-artists who doesn't even write their own stuff. Think Britney Spears.
I don't deny that this type of music has mainstream appeal; clearly it does, much to my chagrin. What I do regret is the failure of the American public to distinguish art from industry. There are musicians out there who have been making an artistic contribution to society, and such musicians should be prioritized over your 'meteor' Britney Spears (who has far outlasted her welcome) types.
Sadly, America seems to prefer their music packaged, hyped, and vapid.
>sigh< What are you gonna do?

Actually Lady Gaga writes her own music and has written music for other groups such as the pussycat dolls. She also isnt that new of a performer but only to mainstream. Gaga has a dedicated following too in the gay community thanks to her support and many performances at gay clubs

ginger,
i adore tori amos and have seen her in concert seven times. i'm just as much of a music snob as the next person, and loathe the influx of studio-created pop "music" marketing garbage...but perhaps you should check your facts before going off on an ignorant tangent. it just makes you look like a moron.
lady gaga (the name was given to her by her producer years ago, fyi) *does* write her own music, has written dozens of songs for other singers since she was still in her teens, is the driving creative force behind her personal fashion and stage designs as well as her choreography, is a classically-trained musician, and worked her way into the pop "spotlight" by playing clubs in manhattan's lower east side as a teenager. she is not a britney spears nor some other pre-packaged pop mess. she's a real artist, and while her style of music (pop/dance) is not one that has generally appealed to me, i find her to be fascinating and honest as a musician. i really like her music, mostly because it's not only catchy, but it's real.
don't be so judgmental with your condescending tirade about the lack of art in pop music, when you don't even know who the artist is you're talking about. not everyone will like lady gaga's music (does everyone like tori's?), but to discredit her as an artist without even knowing who she is is just snobbery that gives the fans of quality music a bad name. if you truly were a connoisseur of music, you would know that even the pop charts produce real artists every now and again.

I like GaGa's music even though she is kind of weird. But Amos is also strange and should not be casting aspersions on any other artist, but keep her rude comments to herself. They both have a place in entertainment.

Tori who???

Shar you have a foul mouth. It shows how not educated you are. If you want to bet some money on it..........I know Lady GaGa will not last!
Veniceat 9-02-2009
Hey Shar: do you have to wait until your 4th year to learn the difference between "peruse" and "pursue?" I don't know if you're going to make a great English major... ;)
Jimat 9-02-2009
This is for Shar, the so-called third year English major college student: You are a pretty sad example of the current state of the educational system. Run your post through a grammar checker, and I believe you will find that it ranks in the fifth grade level. Sad. Truly sad. But, you can always cover your educational inadequacies with a well placed expletive, right?
Krayzeeat 9-03-2009
Hey Shar, can I get some too eh? So that Canadian system is kinda slack on the english eh? Looks like you were payin' attention when the "F" word was explained eh? What does a "pretty decent" GPA translate into eh? Is a Canadian "B" equal to an American "D"? You're really angry 'cause it's cold there eh? Eh? Eh?
Chrisat 9-03-2009
Wow, I didn't know censorship was so bad that a person can't say "fuck" in a forum, and furthermore the Grammar Police need to jump on a person whenever they make a simple typo? Does it really make a person feel that much better to point out the inadequacies of another person and gang up on them?
And as for the person that keeps saying "eh" as a jab at a Canadian; cute. That's all you can come up with?
Now, to the topic of Lady Gaga, which is what this is all supposed to be about, but has clearly deviated away from; I too feel that though her music has a nice catch to it, I'm afraid that her image in the pop scene will be short lived, be it by her doings, or by the choices made by the public.
And as for Tori Amos, I do agree with the "what has she done lately?" questions. But at least she has an idea what she is talking about.
And as for Shar, just remember that chances are you will never meet these haters, because haters are just surrounded by bad Karma, and as long as you keep your chin up and keep good energy around you, then they can't do anything about it. Yeah, they're haters, that's what haters do; they hate on those that they feel might be happier than themselves. So chin up and move on.
Cheers
