Potent Quotables: Tori Takes On GaGa

"She's what I call a meteor -- singers who entertain people for a while." --Tori Amos

While Amos insists "there's nothing wrong with" Lady GaGa's fame, she has little long-term hope for the pop star.

Maybe she's just a little jealous that Gaga is getting more recognition at the moment, I havent heard from Tori Amos in YEARS! Also, she's just as 'out there' as Gaga is, so one would think that she would identify with her instead of slamming her.

I am a huge fan of both musicians. they are both very talented in their own right. to the people spreading negativeity about either of them, spread it somewhere else. they are both great musicians.

I guess David Bowie & Elton John were another couple of meteors. Weirdos never have staying power, just ask Madonna. Also, I suspect Tori made the comment so she could hitchhike a couple miles on Lady Gaga's celebrity - green eyed monster maybe?

Hey guys,I've been noticing that people think this blog is regarding Lady Gaga- it's not. It's about Tori Amos, and I surely hope I'm not the only one to notice this. But anyway, when I first heard Tori's music, I was in high school and it blew me away...and I graduated in 1991. I was a huge music fan and even went o college as a music major and recorded a few albums of my own, but never at all on HER level! She is amazing, but yes, she is in her 40's and maybe even past that, but who really cares? She's an excelent musician who writes most of her own music and lyrics.

First of all, as a fan of BOTH Tori Amos AND Lady Gaga, I think any of you who have questioned Tori Amos' aschievements are ridiculous and pretty much are haters yourselves! As for the person who asked what has Tori Amos done in the past 15 years? Umm, does 10 studio albums rank anywhere on your list of achievements, not to mention that Tori Amos' fame has grown exponentially in the past 15 years so please DO try to do some homework before making ridiculous remarks such as THAT!
Second fact, Lady Gaga is the new IT girl.... and her continued rise to fame will hinge directly on a second studio album IF and WHEN one is released.... so don't attack people with 12 studio albums undfer their belt for making a generalized observation on the quirky artist of today! As I've said, I am a fan of Gaga and Tori Amos, so clearly I wish for both of them to succeed beyond the expectations of all you people out there who are not artists yourselves and may not even have a talented bone in your bodies other than to pick on someone elses (what you claim to be) faults. Tori was simply giving her "opinion" on the matter as someone most likely asked her, and since Gaga and Tori Amos both play the piano, Tori probably felt a little bit more qualified than any of you to give her input on the matter.

Watch Gaga's MTV VMA performance video and try to gleam a little bit of her hidden message from it.... in a nutshell she is telling the world how blood thirsty they are to see someone fail (or not fail) that they will do whatever it takes to get the right "proof", even if it means being the cause of that persons demise.. boy, you people have no clue.. do you? Papparazzi is much akin to what the Papparazzi actually did to Princess Di (of Wales).... but some of you might know that if you weren';t all carbon copies of each other and had a free-thinking cell in your tiny little (sponges you consider to be) brains.

How clueless can an entire society of people really be? It's no wonder Tori Amos moved to England and away from the small minds of America.... what a bunch of clones!

LADY GAGA IS JUST AWFUL. JUST FILLING A TEMPORARY GAP IN OUR ALREADY POOR, HORRIBLE, AND UNTALENTED MUSIC SCENE. WHERE ARE THE DYLANS, CLAPTONS,LENNONS, WONDER'S,FRANKLIN'S AND THE OTHER PLETHORA OF SINGER SONGWRITERS THAT MOLDED THE WORLD IN THE 60'S AND 70'S. I GUESS THE DRUGS OF TODAY AREN'T AS GOOD AS THEY WERE THEN. NO CREATIVITY TODAY. JUST POOR GARBAGE

tori amos has been around for a long time and still sells plenty of cds. just because you only listen to mainstream garbage doesnt mean she is not good. pop stars now use their personal lives to stay relevant. or do "shocking" things for attention. britney spears for example, her music career was going no where fast. suddenly she was "crazy" and supposedly going through all this stuff. oh,and look what that did for her, gave the people who wrote songs for her more things to write about, kept her name out there and relevant. when are people going to learn that the shocking things pop stars and actresses do, most of the time are ways to stay relevant and in the spotlight. thats how paris hilton has made her whole "career". people eat their crap up and pay for it wholesale.if people spent time looking for music they enjoy instead of what top 20 radio gives us, lady gaga would not be around. guaranteed.

...Coming from one of the all time great women artists, who IS hot about a talentless "hosebag"(SCTV) "Lady", you don't have to have talent, just pose as a male recepticle fantasy.

Tori is one of my very favorite singer/musicians. She is a classically trained pianist with an amazing voice too. She plays many keyboards at once and writes all her own songs (Except the cover songs she occasionally does). Everything she does is so different than the way most people do music. She's pretty laid back in style but she's not afraid to rock out either. Her songs sometimes seem to stand still so that they leave your mind in a place and time not just a pop song.

I agree with Tori and glad she has the nerve to speak her mind. She is basically just iterating what many people are already thinking....
