Peter Bjorn and John Win Over Depeche Mode's Fans

As Peter Bjorn and John approach the finish line of their cross-country trek as Depeche Mode's support act, drummer John Eriksson reports that it was a successful venture all around. "We would've said yes to AC/DC as well, but Depeche Mode was a really good choice," he tells Spinner. It's no big surprise that all three members are fans of Depeche Mode to varying degrees, but right before going into the studio to record their latest album, 'Living Thing,' they actually made a point of listening to a few tracks in particular. "So it was a big coincidence that they asked us to do this tour," says Eriksson. "We didn't know how their audience would take our little, quirky band from Sweden, but they've been really into us. Sometimes, they've even had to stop people dancing in the hallways."
He says that as if overzealous security is a good thing, but the point is that getting fans to dance can be quite an accomplishment, especially for the opening band. "We've seen some pretty interesting dance moves, and even one guy that screamed for 90 minutes, constantly," says Eriksson. "I think that was really well done of him."
As for becoming chums with their tour mates, the two bands have established a friendly rapport but they're not going home as BFFs. "[It was] small talk in the catering room but it's not like we've been out surfing together," says Eriksson. "There's still four days left, though ..."
That should be just enough time to get them to sign their yearbooks.
