"Are all American bands metro-sexual now? What happened to the balls?" --Alice Cooper

The original shock rocker slammed Stateside indie rockers, calling out "Gap t-shirt"-wearing Vampire Weekend for their "wimpy" stage presence.

WHAAAAAAAAAT????? Run/DMC single-handedly revived Aerosmith? You jest, yes? Yea that was a cute video but Aerosmith revived itself, and some of us had never ost the faith to begin with.

i disagree i think there are some decent bands now a days like slipknot and mudvayne and you always have underground metal and rock... but seriously alice is alright but ide rather listen to pink flyd, zep or hendrix i mean come one and crows either black or counting arent too bad either

Joyce. Gov't Mule, though they are very talented, aren't doing anything too different than what bands of the past have done already. Same with Drive By Truckers. And Shinedown I don't think has the same amount of talent as either of those two previously mentioned bands. As far as Theory of a Deadman goes, i have no idea. But Vampire Weekend's sound is unique, it's hard to pinpoint one specific band of the past or genre when listening to them. And really, Alice Cooper is irrelevent these days. He probably made this comment so that his iTunes sales could rise.

Alice is absolutely right. Also imo, most of the music being made in the new millenium (especially rock and hard rock) is just plain bad and hard to listen to. It seems todays rock bands have gotten away from hard driving guitar riffs (ala AC/DC or The Cult) and are more heavily vocal based and all the lead singers sound the same. There are'nt many lead singers with voices that have some character to them.
They need to get back to some good old distortion laden hard driving guitar rock n roll.

It's true that alot of rock bands are kinda whimpy, but if there different genre bands then its a diferent story...personally, i likr indie music better than heavy rock, thrash, or metal. But todays metal players are wimpy, i agree wit dat.

Alice Cooper came from an era of music when musicians and bands were recognized for their unique contribution to diversity and a time when rock music was more than cookie cutter glorified garage bands. There was a time when rock musicians were very accomplished musicians who stood out for their talent and were masters of their instruments. There was a time when it was easy to distinguish one group from another. You could easily tell the difference between Alice Cooper and Zepplin,Between Kansas and Steely Dan,Between Joe Walsh and Bob Segar and the list goes on.Now there is more focus on who can come up with the most retarded sounding name for a band than there is on the music. The focus is more on whether record companies can market your looks than the quality of the music. If your ugly your talent means nothing unless making a mockery of your looks makes someone some money. Talent you say. What a joke.Yeah there are a few good bands out there but 1 out of ten stands out and there has been a single one that has revolutionized or affected rock music for future generations like a Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen. No these days all it takes is spike your hair, learn 2 chords on guitar and then have your buddy push you face first into your dads tackle box and your a star.

That's strange, Walt, because in the 1980s I honestly couldn't tell one metal band from another. I really still can't.

Walt,
Jimi Hendrix=Revolutionary guitarist. The Greatest.
Eddie Van Halen=A Great guitarist but not REVOLUTIONARY. Eddie had a technique that others were already working on and using better than him. and he doesn't come CLOSE to the way Hendrix revolutionized the instrument.

and bmmg39, I agree completely.

if i wanted to know what some dinosaur thought of ONE generic lame ass band, i'd go ask someone who can do more than just sing while a back up band does all the work for him (vampweekend sucks ass but atleast the singer can do more than just sing).

every decade of music is lame. the 60's had lame wussy hippy shit, the 70's had bloated arena rock, the 80's had cock rock, the 90's had nu-metal, and today has over rated "indie" bands.

the only people that should be commenting on anyone, is no one, cause we all suck. alice cooper just sucks a little harder cause he doesnt know it, as with most of you guys/gals.

No disrespect to anybody, but why does Alice Cooper think every band should be exactly the same? If pyrotechnics, jumping around the stage, and breaking instruments works for him, great. Some bands aren't about that, though. When I go to a concert, I'm not there to watch people break things or blow stuff up; I'm going to hear music being performed. The musicians can sit down the whole time for all I care.

I totally agree with Alice. There are very few bands I listen to from 1990 and on.
I have been to an Alice concert and it was amazing. The man has done his time and is extreamly wise. He really is telling it like it is. Sad, but true :-(
