"It encourages kids not to learn ... It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument." --Bill Wyman

In a recent interview, the former Rolling Stones bassist weighed in on the Rock Band franchise calling it "a pity."

The point is, in today's technological world, kids are being brought up with technology in everything they do. Most schools nowadays have computers that are used even at the earliest stages of learning. Kids are accustomed to learning through this technology! In many ways this can be considered a good thing, however, for those of us who are "old school" we find it difficult to comprehend. For us, the "pure" instrument is what we know! I too agree that there is something more to be said for learning an instrument in it's true form. A guitar for me, is learning to caress it in your arms, learning and sensing it's every movement, it's every ambiance! Knowing how to give the strings "just the right touch", how to bend and move a string to find that rich, unmatched sound to express an internal feeling in your soul in your creativity! That can, perhaps, be matched to some degree by a "virtual" sound that is made through a "synthesized chip" but it isn't a "true" sound. Also, there is a lot to be said about strumming a guitar because there are so many ways that a "natural" feel can express a movement that a synthesized gadget cannot not really reproduce. It would only make the sound or provide the "time" but there's no room for error there. With the pure instrument, you can make an error that can, at times, make what you're playing that much more authentic! Anyway, in the long run, it's just a different sound, effect and a much less authentic display of emotions. There's a sense of contemporary songs being "Lost in Translation", especially for the "purest". One way or the other, long live the music! Let's just continue to create it! All instruments should be "pure". Peace!

Sorry, not everyone is good at guitar hero, least of all me. My son on the other hand is and he is 9, but he also plays the guitar and writes his own songs all the time. He's done this all along and it had nothing to do with the game. If you have the talent u have it period.

Young kids should be active outdoors instead of being cooped up playing video games. That's why this country is producing some of the fattest kids in the world!

Weather youre playing Rock Band/Guitar Hero, singing in your car to the radio, dancing in front of the miror to your favorite cd...playing a Kazoo or shaking a can full of sand or banging two sticks together...MUSIC is something that every person should be able to have in theyre lives...in any way or form...it soothes the soul

Hm. This would be an interesting thing to think about, and really it depends on your own personal opinion. But to me (because I have the same case), playing Rockband is good because it could inspire one to learn the instrument they are using on there (i.e Drums, guitar). After playing guitar on Rockband, I really want to take guitar lessons now.
