Glasvegas Singer Found Safe After Five-Day Disappearance

Glasvegas frontman James Allan has been found safe and well in New York after going missing ahead of the Mercury Music Prize announcement on Tuesday night.

"We did a festival in Italy and came back and the last I've seen of him was at the airport," guitarist Rab Allan, the singer's cousin, told NME.com ahead of the awards in London. "I got told today he's ill. Missing in action? Yeah something like that."

But manager Dean Cunning told the Independent on Wednesday: "James is not missing, he's in New York. He got in touch with me yesterday at about 1.45pm to tell me he was OK because he knew people were worried, but to be honest I've been just as much in the dark about this as anybody -- the last time I saw James was at the gig in Cardiff [supporting U2 at the Millennium Stadium on August 22]. I don't even know exactly when he went missing."

He said the singer had got in touch after realising people were concerned for his welfare. The band are due to support Kings of Leon on tour in the U.S. this month.

Earlier, bassist bassist Paul Donoghue told Scotland's Daily Record. "I hope James will get in touch soon because now we are flying to America. I'm hoping that if we don't see him at the airport, we will see him in Boston."

Rab Allan also told the paper: "We don't think he's in Glasgow. Our manager is in Glasgow and he hasn't heard from him. We thought he would turn up at the Mercury Prize at the last minute. I miss him. The message is: James please get in touch."

When Spinner spoke to James Allan at Reading Festival little more than two weeks ago, the singer seemed to be relishing the chance to play support to Kings of Leon.

wow, I'm a bit out of it as I'm a huge Glasvegas fan but been traveling so just heard about this. NOOOO idea where all the political stuff is coming from but I do agree that it was blown out of proportion! My God, the guy's an adult, been on a whirlwind rock band ride for months!...probably just needed a break. Let up on him, if he needs space, that's his choice. Better to have him step away from it all a bit than let it take him down. And yes, his lyrics are very passionate and personal as I'm sure he is himself so I hope now that he's back, he and the band can continue their wonderful music making moments. God bless!

christ sake what a bunch of bitter angry comments. So the man whos likes his own time just goes for a bit of time on his own and realising the guys might be worried gets in touch. Is it that big a stretch of time that nowadays we have to put every little thing on twitter/facebook/myspace. I don't want everyone to know what i'm doing every second of the day and James doesn't even use a cell phone so why would you expect him too.

Hes on drugs a crack head a douche a tool then a load of rubbish political republican/liberal nonsense. You guys need to chill out I don't know why you care so much to be so angry. I'd turn my phone off if you were my friends. sad

I have been listen to the album for about a month. Allans passion comes right at you and sticking with his accent is a touch of class. He sings from the heart so please use your heart to listen.

I don't tell my co-workers where I go on the weekend, I just show up on Monday. Why do you think this adult needed to tell anyone where he was. He may even have mentioned it to someone and they didn't remember, or it was a spur of the moment thing. Either way he is over 18, and he didn't miss any work or school, I see no problem with that. Did anyone try calling him, I bet he has a cell phone, or e-mail.

Maybe he just felt under pressure and needed some time alone. Or maybe he does have a drug addiction. Who knows?

Never heard of him. Just a publicity stunt. He should go missing again and stay gone this time.

He is a grown man for pete's sake. It's his business if he want's to lie low for a week or two. Why did every one around him get all excited? I wonder if it might have been a publicity stunt. He isn't exactly a household name, is he.
