Green Day Win Best Rock Video at MTV VMAs

Fifteen years after they first performed at the VMAs, Green Day took home the award for Best Rock Video for their '21 Guns' clip. The video, which features the band performing in a room with a young couple who are hiding from the police, was directed by Marc Webb, who also helmed '500 Days of Summer.' The song is the second single from '21st Century Breakdown,' and Webb is also slated to direct the video for the title track, which is the next single.

After being presented with the award by Jack Black and 'Gossip Girl' star Leighton Meester, the trio came back to play 'East Jesus Nowhere,' another track from the album. The strong performance ended with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong bringing a bunch of fans onstage and the crowd loving every minute of it.

Prior to this, Green Day has won eight Moonman statues over their career, with seven coming in 2005, including Video of the Year for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams.' They performed 'Basket Case' in 1994 and 'Stuck With You' the following year. They have been nominated 28 times.
