Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Finally Fulfill Promise of a Live Album

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are finally making good on a longtime promise. While the Los Angeles space rock trio preps its fifth studio album, which is due next spring, BRMC issues a whopping three-disc performance DVD/CD set, simply and self-descriptively titled 'Live,' on Nov.10. "Our fans kept asking about it for a long time, but we were always busy recording or touring so we didn't think about it," vocalist/bassist Robert Levon Been tells Spinner. "The idea kept kicking around, so we're making good on a promise from years ago." 'Live' is the band's first release under its new partnership with longstanding indie Vagrant Records, which has taken BRMC's Abstract Dragon label under its wing. The DVD features behind-the-scenes footage and a two-hour live concert film culled from three sold-out shows in Berlin, Dublin and Glasgow during the 2007 tour in support of BRMC's last studio disc, 'Baby 81.' The audio CD contains the concert soundtrack. Been admits that a BRMC live disc was always low on the band's to-do list. "We were always focused on the next record or just making the shows as great as possible," he says. "We kinda did it at first just to get it out of the way."
But, with a little coaxing, the project turned into a worthy artistic endeavor. "It became more of a passion, we actually got into it more," Been says. "Like it was a record, we got a creative spark. It came out really wonderful. We're proud to have it as a formal release."
In the meantime, you can head to the band's official website to get a free download of a remix of '666 Conducer' from 'Baby 81' and watch an exclusive video from the band's overlooked 2008 self-released instrumental album, 'The Effects of 333.'
