Documentary Shows Young Girls Learning to Rock at Camp

In a male-dominated industry where many successful women are defined by their physical beauty or ability to auto-tune their way through a pop hit, the Rock 'n Roll Camp for Girls comes as a breath of fresh air. Trashing, shredding and screaming with reckless abandon are welcome and encouraged at the camp, where girls ages 8 to 18 gain self-confidence and learn to appreciate who they are through a unique creative outlet.

The documentary 'Girls Rock!' follows a few of the campers as they spend an unforgettable week forming bands, learning to play instruments and writing their own songs in preparation for a finale concert in front of an audience of 750 people. Indie rockers Carrie Brownstein of Sleater Kinney and Gossip's Beth Ditto provide guidance along the way, teaching the girls lessons about empowerment and helping them abandon self-defeating stereotypes.
