Starf---er Seeking Fans' Help for Name Change

With a name like Starf---er, certain limitations will pop up as your band starts gaining popularity. Television appearances would surely be hard as well as, say, explaining your band to more conservative, older generations or getting cut out of certain touring opportunities. All of these reasons are what has prompted the band to get a new name, pronto.

"I used to work taking care of elderly people and I couldn't tell them the name," Starf---er principal Josh Hodges tells Spinner. "My mom actually really likes the name. But in real life, it has kept us from getting on tours with bands we really like, which actually sucks. A lot."

The band is currently in the midst of their last tour under the name Starf---er, which follows their most recent release 'Jupiter,' their final release under that moniker. While leaving things in the past is certainly hard for some, Hodges feels a sense of excitement in the promise of a new name. He's recently recorded six new songs in the band's van and is currently "stockpiling ideas."

If you think you have a good idea for the next incarnation of Starf---er, feel free to drop them a line at newnameideas@gmail.com or pop by the merchandise table at one of their upcoming gigs and tell them in person. Please, those suggesting "Freebird," "Sonic Death Monkey" or "Farstucker" need not apply. That said, time might be running out -- according to Hodges, the band has chosen a frontrunner: "Ghost Ride the Whip." Not bad, we think. "We've had a lot [of suggestions]," Hodges says. "Which is really cool actually. A lot of [loyal fans] are freaking out and a lot are being supportive. But the fact that it's been so controversial I think it shows people actually give a s---."
