Jonsi and Alex Launch Coloring Book Contest
- Posted on Sep 17th 2009 4:30PM by Charley Rogulewski
Experimental duo Jonsi and Alex have the website that just keeps on giving. Earlier this year, apart from unleashing their ambient debut album 'Riceboy Sleeps,' the Sigur Ros frontman, Jonsi Birgisson, and his partner, Alex Somers, treated fans to the downloadable, 18-recipe 'Good Heart Recipe Book' (try the Coconut Thai Curry.) With indie-rock coloring books being all the rage these days, Jonsi and Alex are taking the fad to the virtual level, having added the 40-page 'Jonsi & Alex's Coloring Book' for download. The cryptic-looking, Depression-era inspired collection of original black and white sketches was originally gifted with 3500 limited-edition copies, all sold-out now, of the duo's debut album. But to make things more interesting, Jonsi and Alex want their fans to put on their game faces in a virtual coloring competition that will win one lucky person an autographed 'Riceboy Sleeps' box set and other signed knickknacks, such as a tote, a poster and a physical copy of the coloring book.
Before you pick up the old Burnt Sienna Crayola and go all Picasso on your computer screen, there are some helpful guidelines for the virtual competition:
1. Print out your favorite picture from Jónsi and Alex's coloring book.
2. Color in the picture with whatever coloring tools you like (physically or digitally). Feel free to color outside the lines -- originality and imagination is encouraged.
3. Scan in the colored-in picture and send it to mail@jonsiandalex.com. Please include your full name in the e-mail and keep attachments under 5MB.
This takes the annual pumpkin-drawing tradition at the local grocery store to the next level. Apart from the aforementioned treats, the winner and five runners-up will receive a copy of the couple's 'Rain Down My Favorite Songs' mixtape. The eclectic mix, sporting cover art from the coloring book, features music from Billie Holiday, Django Reinhardt and even Audrey Hepburn's take on 'Moon River' to match the era's murals.
