Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Going on Hiatus

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will go on hiatus after it wraps its North American tour in Buffalo, N.Y. on Nov. 22. Before that, however, the band will shoehorn in two additional performances at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 7 and 8 as part of its final run of dates, with tickets for those shows going on sale today at noon.

"We are going to take a break, I don't know how long ... a year, year and a half, two years," guitarist Steve Van Zandt announced on a media call Wednesday. "This is a good time to see us. We may not be as pretty, [but] we seem to be getting better in funny ways."

"Up to now we've been working a lot and it's great," he added of the bands three year run of two albums and worldwide tours. "You never know, this could be our last tour. We do every show like it's our last show anyway."

"As far as I know we'll wrap up at Thanksgiving and that'll be it for the time being," E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren said during the call. "For 25 years since I joined up, my experience is that at the end of the tour, for instance, the 'Born In The U.S.A.' tour, that was it, no future plans. I got back to my solo thing ... If there's another call and project. I'm honored to be a part of it."

Highlights of the current tour include a "stump the band" segment in which the group plays a cover based on signs that fans make and submit. Springsteen collects them and sorts through them onstage. Additionally, as previously reported, the band will do a front-to-back rendition of 'Born To Run' in Chicago this Sunday and again in Nashville, not to mention the final shows at New Jersey's soon to be dismantled Giants Stadium. Prior to the aforementioned MSG shows, the band will also play the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concert at the Garden on Oct. 29.

I agree, Totally and I was one of Bruce's early music fans, also totally. I saw him at the old Philly Spectrum where the Flyers won their Stanley Cups the night John Lennon was shot and killed. Bruce Springsteen was great then. He sucks now. His newer music and lyrics is pretentious and no longer relates to what is happening now. So, he's not the "Next Bob Dylan". Like an professional athlete who has seen his "Glory Days" pass by........Mr. Springsteen should do the world a favor and hang it up. Perhaps go down to the well tonight and drink till he gets his fill and enjoy his 300 million dollars............and stop pretending that he cares about closed metal factories in Ohio.

I wish more people hated Springsteen...I couldn't get tickets for the Madison Square Garden shows 20 minutes after they went on sale because they were SOLD OUT! I was born the year his first record was released and love every album from the 70's til now. I've seen him live three times this year and the joy and energy he brings to the stage is amazing. Every show was a sell-out and the fans ROARED for three straight hours. See you at Giants Stadium, Bruce....can't wait!

Brucie reminds me of Frank Sinatra hanging on the the "glory days" when they have long faded.

Really? How many Bruce concerts have you been to lately? He's still selling out stadiums. And those of us who are die hard fans are now taking our children with us. Even kids who listen to mostly rap have a blast at his concerts. Try it sometime

Have any of you nay-sayers ever seen this show? It's easily the best high energy concert imaginable. There's no nights off with Bruce and the band.

I saw Bruce just a few weeks ago, and it was fabulous. I've seen him several times over the years, and this was by far the best concert.

Too late.... they've already been voted into Rolling Stone's Best of so many times over the last three decades, I can't remember. NOt only that, but they're a frickin' institution in the Rock World. Let's see one of your bands rock their face off for 3 hours when they get to be 60 years old! It ain't gonna happen.

seriously? They will not go down in history? Do you have any clue how long Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have been around, and therefore have already made history? Be careful, your ignorance is showing.

Bruce and The E Street Band are even better now than before. Have you seen them in concert lately? Apparently not.....Not many bands play for three hours straight, no breaks. Their music speaks to your heart, and is as honest as it gets in these times of little integrity and truth.

The Best American Band! "a lucky garage band" some one said earlier! That is OK they play great intimate live shows to sold out stadiums around the world for going on 40 years... I have seen "The Boss" you are still in the dark

To all you Bruce haters out there....to see Bruce is to love Bruce. Unless you have actually seen him in concert, you don't have anything to base your stupid comments on. You would realize then how much talent, energy and passion he brings to his shows. I'd like to see any of you perform like that...he's one "has been" who could outperform all of you. And if he were such as has been, why is he able to sell out large stadiums??? Enough of the Bruce bashing....go get a life!!!
