Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard Tie the Knot

It was clearly a match made in indie-heaven, as actress/singer Zooey Deschanel tied the knot this past weekend with Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. The ceremony reportedly took place near Seattle and was kept under wraps for the most part. A lone tweet from from Death Cab guitarist Chris Walla on Saturday indicated that a wedding was going down, but wasn't too specific as to whose. Deschanel's reps have since confirmed the nuptials to People. In Dec. 2008, Gibbard proposed to Deschanel after the couple dated for a year, concluding what was a very successful 12 months for both of them. Deschanel's She and Him project with M.Ward took off to great fanfare and Death Cab for Cutie's sixth album 'Narrow Stairs' entered the Billboard charts at No. 1 in its first week of release. Not too shabby. Since then, the couple has been somewhat quiet musically for the first half of this year, although Deschanel appeared in and contributed to the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed '500 Days of Summer' this past August.
But while the honeymooning will presumably get underway this week, Gibbard himself is gearing up for a somewhat busy fall. The band has recorded 'Meet Me on the Equinox,' the lead single for 'New Moon', the next installment in the 'Twilight' series soundtrack. The song is currently streaming at the band's MySpace page. Gibbard will also join Son Volt main man Jay Farrar on a short tour at the end of October in support of their Jack Kerouac album, 'One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur.' If that's not enough, Gibbard will also make his acting debut in 'Brief Interviews With Hideous Men,' out this Friday.
And while it's nice to think about Gibbard and Deschanel logging some studio time together (suggested band name: Husband and Wife), what we'd really like her powers of persuasion to do is encourage/demand a new Postal Service record, assuming Gibbard ever gets any downtime.
