Johnny Marr Admits He Emails Morrissey

If you believe some reports, the severed Smiths alliance of Morrissey and Johnny Marr ushered in a two-decade-long Cold War, with upper lips being burled in disdain at the very mention of their rival's name. Not so, it would appear.

Former Smiths guitarist and now current Crib (and, err, part-time Modest Mouse) Marr has said he is email contact with Morrissey -- though he still ruled out a reformation of his old band.

"It's not necessarily the case that we're not talking," Marr told the Norwich Evening News. "We have email. We worked on that 'Sound Of The Smiths' [the compilation album released in 2008] together. Who's got time for a feud? Right now I have got screwdrivers inside guitars, my car broke down yesterday... I've got no time for a feud."

Marr also added: "I like The Smiths' songs, but I like playing with two guitars and writing new songs. Unfortunately a reunion would go against both those things."

Marr recently joined the Cribs as a full-time member last year. The band released their fourth album 'Ignore the Ignorant,' featuring songs co-written with Marr, earlier this month.

Apart from writing and touring with US indie rockers Modest Mouse, Marr also found time to take part in Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide project, alongside members of Radiohead and Wilco.

Don't feel bad Steve I never heard of them either,so they must be real popular somewhere. Maybe I'm out of touch with the reality that they are important

What complete idiots. I cant beleive these ignorant people still walk this earth. How can some one not know Morrissey? They dont have the mental capacity to understand this music anyway. This Bill and Steve sound like complete and utter retards. They dont deserve to know this music. Leave them in top 40 hell where they belong.

Mason, I have the capacity I just want to waste it on obscure crap like you listen to. Hey, if they play that stuff where you work (tatoo parlor or record store)enjoy it. Its not on any radio I listen to for a good reason. No station around here plays that obscure junk

The Smiths are always ranked in the Top 50 bands of all time. Read a music magazine that does the polls. Morrissey has influenced every song writer from Kurt Kobain to Wilco Look it up. 25 years later The Smiths are still being sampled, stolen from, and copied. From Marr's guitar riffs to Morrissey's falsetto voice to his angst filled lyrics. But no one has quite been able to duplicate them. As far as the homo thing? hahah you small minded fools!

Wow. I really have to reassess my view on these obscure and forgettable musicians and the following they apparently have. After getting notified that there were ten responses to my post on these obscure people I can now say this. Calling Johnny Marr and the Cribs and the Smiths obscure on a public forum is like walking into a Star Trek convention and calling out all the attendees as no life losers and nerds and then getting beaten to death by plactic light sabres. If you enjoy their music please feel free to enjoy it - just no more plastic light sabres you musical Trekkies.

@Bill...Google "most important album 1986." On all these top ten lists you'll see Paul Simon's "Graceland," Peter Gabriel's "So," REM, New Order, Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode, Steve Winwood, Prince, Van Halen, Genesis, Eurythmics...ever heard of them??? Guess which album is number one on all or most lists? Smiths "The Queen is Dead." If you've heard of all these other bands but not the Smiths you are just plain ignorant.

Queen was a Great bank...The Eagles were a Great Band...Eric clapton was a Great Artist..I could go on and on. The stuff that's been put out over the last 20 years is for the most part..plain and simply...GARBAGE. The Cribs or the Crips or whatever it's called..I mean..what the hck is that?? MUSIC?? Hardly anybody knows who these people are and certainly in another few years NOBODY will yet the REAL LEGENDS of the '60's and '70's will live forever. Seems like ever since the early '80's talent and creativity has gone straight SOUTH...same as in other forms of entertainment. Too Bad....
