Johnny Marr Admits He Emails Morrissey

If you believe some reports, the severed Smiths alliance of Morrissey and Johnny Marr ushered in a two-decade-long Cold War, with upper lips being burled in disdain at the very mention of their rival's name. Not so, it would appear.

Former Smiths guitarist and now current Crib (and, err, part-time Modest Mouse) Marr has said he is email contact with Morrissey -- though he still ruled out a reformation of his old band.

"It's not necessarily the case that we're not talking," Marr told the Norwich Evening News. "We have email. We worked on that 'Sound Of The Smiths' [the compilation album released in 2008] together. Who's got time for a feud? Right now I have got screwdrivers inside guitars, my car broke down yesterday... I've got no time for a feud."

Marr also added: "I like The Smiths' songs, but I like playing with two guitars and writing new songs. Unfortunately a reunion would go against both those things."

Marr recently joined the Cribs as a full-time member last year. The band released their fourth album 'Ignore the Ignorant,' featuring songs co-written with Marr, earlier this month.

Apart from writing and touring with US indie rockers Modest Mouse, Marr also found time to take part in Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide project, alongside members of Radiohead and Wilco.

Johnny Marr? Smiths? Cribs? Who are these people? Are there people out there who would really care about these folks and follow their antics?

actually, the Smiths were one of the most respected bands in music....that's who "these people" are.

Yes they do. Alot of people still love "The Smiths' music. If you have not heard it perhaps you should try to listen to it to see what all the talk is about. Johnny Marr can play some of the most inceredible guitar tracks known. Perhaps you should open up your music vocabulary and give them a try. Just a thought. If they ever did reunite for a tour it would be amazing and a cash cow.

are they as talented as Coldplay? I think that they 'were' respected is they key word, no staying power b/c their songs sound the same (writing ability limited).

Metallica, U2, they are still respected.

As far as them being homos, I don't know.

The Smiths were great! Good to hear that Marr is doing well and the feud is dead.

Do yourself a favor, listen to The Smiths, I repeat, listen to The Smiths, how about some Replacements, did you hear? Replacements. Bill, you don't have to care but why not sit back, listen and enjoy. Throw in some Paul Westerberg, maybe some Whiskeytown (Ryan Adams). Just get Beyonce off the ipod, please!

Nice try, but I doubt you'll get through to someone like Bill. Anyway like to add a few more bands:
    Lucero, Social Distortion, Gaslight Anthem.

These bands are washed up and their lyrics cry of social injustice and liberalism, just how I want to spend my free time listening to that crap.

I don't believe Marr.....if two guitars are so important he could just continue overdubbing guitars on the Smiths records like he's always done. There's some other reason he's avoiding reuniting. No big loss anyway, Morissey's doing fine without him ("You Have Killed Me" rocks).

yeah you see there is music that never gets played on the radio. so 30 years of radio makes you an expert on talking to yourself on a microphone.

Yeah, we cared in 1983. Coldplay? As talented as Coldplay? My cat is as talented as Coldplay, because he is dead. He was way more talented before.

I have a few of my own: Muse, Pink Floyd, Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam, Thornley, just to name a few. And from that British era of The Smiths, what about Echo and the Bunnymen and The Police. Can't go wrong there. Don't critisize. Just sit back and listen. You could find something you really like. Some days are made for "How Soon Is Now?" If you've ever seen "Charmed" on TV this is the theme song. Always something new to hear...
