Whether it's to prove a point about music piracy or just a change of heart, Lily Allen says she is turning her back on her successful music career. Allen -- who earlier this month said she was eyeing a new career in acting -- reveals that she has no plans to record another album and won't be renewing her existing deal with EMI. Lily took to her blog, the now-deleted It's Not Alright, earlier this week to make the admission during her campaign against file-sharing. "Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade," Allen wrote.
"The days of me making money from recording music have been and gone as far as I'm concerned, so I don't (at this point) stand to profit from legislation, except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won't be much)," she explained of her initiative to encourage people to stop illegal file-sharing.
A spokesperson for Allen -- who has tour dates slated until the end of 2009 -- insisted that Allen wasn't actually leaving music entirely behind her in an NME report. "She is not quitting pop music," he said. "She is not thinking about her next album right now because she is still in the middle of promoting her current record."
In other Allen news, the singer also announced she would no longer campaign against illegal file sharing. The website Techdirt accused her of copying and publishing their content without proper credit on her blog, and also detailed her previous distribution of free mixtapes featuring other people's work. She claims that she doesn't want to detract from other artists involved in the campaign and has since deleted her blog.
