Johnny Depp Directing Baby Bird Video?

It's been a long time since Baby Bird troubled the UK charts. The British band, essentially the vehicle for the talents of songwriter and former performance artist Stephen Jones, and scored an unlikely Britpop-era hit with 'You're Gorgeous.'One fan, it appears, was 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star and friend of Keith Richards Johnny Depp, who has reportedly taken to the director's chair for the band's new video.
According to the Sun and NME.com, the Hollywood star was seen by paparazzi filming at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire this week.
The video is also said to star Depp's co-star in the recent film 'Public Enemies', Stephen Graham.
Baby Bird split in 2000 after being dropped by their record label Echo, but reformed to make a fourth album in 2005 and are set to release a fifth album in November, and play a handful of shows in the UK that month.
Depp, 46, is no stranger to the joys of hanging out with musicians. Quite apart from his time spent in the band P, he played guitar on Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan's first solo album and played slide guitar on Oasis' 1997 song 'Fade-In Out.'

I saw this video on BBC Breakfast yesterday and it kept reminding me of something, but couldn't think what. When the singer said it included a hanging, I knew .
The video is almost exactly the same as a short film I saw years ago at the NFT. Called 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge', it was based on a story by Ambrose Bierce. Set in the American Civil war, a man is about to be hanged from a bridge, accused of spying. As the execution order is given, he somehow escapes and is chased through the woods, trying to get back to his wife and children. He is just approaching the house and can see his family watching, when he reaches the end of the drop and is hanged.
We realise the whole thing had been a fantasy as he fell from the bridge with the noose around his neck.
My love for Johnny Depp knows no bounds, but I suspect there is a riny bit of plagiarism here - or Bierce should be credited!
