As if Johnny Marr hasn't kept busy enough in 2009, former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has let slip to Spinner that the and the former Smiths guitarist are going to work together on new tracks.

Brown says, "He says he's got some tracks for me, that he wants to give to me. But he doesn't want to give me a tape, he wants to sit down with me. That suits me. Anytime he's ready I'm there.

"Johnny's a guy I'd love to collaborate with. We've spoken about it, and we don't live that far way from each other, but obviously he's really buy at the moment, and every time we want to do it he takes another project on.

"He's in New Zealand or America, which I'm really glad about, I buzz off it, when I read about him being number one in the album charts with Modest Mouse, that's beautiful. All them years later and he's still doing it."

Marr divides his time between Portland, Ore. and Manchester. He toured with Modest Mouse after playing on their 2008 album 'We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank' and recently joined the Cribs as a full-time member for their fourth album 'Ignore the Ignorant.' Somehow, amidst all that, he found time to play on Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide project, too...

Brown says he can remember Marr from his teenage years, filled with the self-determination and cocksure belief that Manchester's bands have always had in ample measures.

"I remember him from being 16, coming in to the pub, and telling everyone he was going to have a number one album," Brown tells Spinner. "Two years later he did. Brilliant. He was so cocky Johnny, when he was a kid, and I used to love him for that. I love people who are cocky who can deliver.

"As a 16-year-old kid she said 'Watch me have a number one album.' And he did. He was toast of the town. Brilliant."

Marr is shortly on the tour bus with the Cribs while Brown is releasing his latest album 'My Way' on Monday. Gentlemen, synchronize your diaries...
