Despite Pete Doherty's recent announcement that the Libertines will reunite for an album and tour next year, former bandmate Carl Barat says fans won't hear anything from the group until at least 2011."I'm too busy next year. Maybe the year after that," Barat told NME. "See how it goes. When it needs to happen, it will fall into place. It's more a way of life than a band for me. I'm not going to jump up there and play the songs for some money -- if it feels right then it will fall into place."
Barat also confessed that he hasn't spoken to Doherty "for a while", but he's aggravated by the text messages he has received from Doherty imposters. "I keep getting kids texting me pretending to be Pete, which is a bit confusing because I never know when it actually is [Doherty]," he said. "Without realizing, I could be harming my diplomatic relations with Pete by sending reactionary texts."
Barat made the confession at the 'Breaking Rocks' premiere at the Raindance film festival Proud Camden in London last night. The documentary, about the Billy Bragg-spearheaded program that gives musical instruments to prisoners also featured performances by Bragg, Mick Jones, the MC5's Wayne Kramer and Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters.
