If you ever wondered what Jack White would be like as a filmmaker, well, here's your answer. White directed the video for 'I Cut Like a Buffalo,' the latest single from his latest band, the Dead Weather. Sure enough, it's filled with the kind of color schemes, stark images and shrouded meanings you'd expect from the man who once ordered everyone on his crew to wear fancy hats. While it's true that White is on drum duty for Dead Weather, he remains every bit the leading man -- on both sides of the camera -- for this video. As for the images illuminating what this song is actually about, they remain a mystery. We're still not quite sure how exactly White and his cohorts cut like a buffalo but at least now we know that they look damn fine doing it.

Who is this one
Whose seventh son
Just by his action has the traction
Magnets on the run?
Who likes to smoke
Enjoys a joke
And wouldn’t get a bit upset
If he were really broke?
With wealth and fame
He’s still the same
I’ll bet you five he’s not alive
If you don’t now his name
I just watched it 4 more times. Why is it with all of Mr. White's work I have to sit with it for awhile. I guess my brain can't handle it all at once. I have to say the split screen pieces, esp. the one with the random old man and all the backward motion, like when he is next to the belly dancer, those moments stick with me. The video were all his colors cobalt and yellow, red, black and white. Very David Lynch. There was this show called "Voom" at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philly and some of the images in this show come to mind on 4th viewing of Mr. White's video. I think Johnny Depp was somehow involved in that "Voom" show. First viewing I didn't realize the creepiness of Mr. White's video. Deathlike and Childlike at the same time. Yep That pretty much sums it up.

amazing. The hair looks awesome too. I heard Cali DeVaney did ALL the hair for the video! Badass.

They did come to NYC on July 17 - took my gf for her birthday. Was an awesome show aside from the Steve Perry lookalike and his girlfriend who "danced" next to us all night stomping around like idiots.

Good stuff. Nice lighting and trippy imaginary visuals. Is that the legendary Mr. BP Fallon alluding to René Magritte's "Son of Man" Painting.
Barneyat 10-03-2009
Yes that's definitely BP Fallon.
