Liam Gallagher may not full of brotherly love, but it appears the Oasis singer does have a soft spot for honey bees.Gallagher, 37, has fronted a campaign to save honey bees, which are in danger of being wiped out , scientists have warned. A new film on the plight of the honey bee warns that without the tireless buzzing from plant to plant, humanity's industrialised food chain could fail.
"You've got to look after the birds and the bees, man. The bees are vanishing. We've got to save them before they all buzz off. It's important. It's a really worthwhile cause. Without them we're in proper bother."
Quoth Gallagher: "I like honey. If it weren't for honey, I'd have a rough voice."
The Britpop figurehead was prompted to support the new film The Vanishing of the Bees -- which is released in the UK next week -- after honey helped cure him of a throat virus which had caused Oasis to pull out of the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival in August.
One-fifth of the UK's honey bee hives perished in 2008. The bees are responsible for pollinating around one-third of the country's food and a collapse of bee populations could be a disaster for UK agriculture. No definitive reason for the bees' hives failing has so far been confirmed, but increased use of pesticides, climate change, pests and habitat destruction are all thought to be factors.
Spinner awaits with interest brother Noel's stance -- could the Gallagher's reunification be prompted by the bees' sticky situation?
