Moby Gives Concert Cash to Domestic Violence Shelters

As the ongoing global financial crisis makes itself felt in myriad ways, Moby has put his hand in pocket to help social services crippled by budget cuts.

Moby has pledged the money from his three forthcoming Californian shows – San Diego (Oct. 12), Los Angeles (Oct. 14) and San Francisco (Oct. 15) – will be donated to domestic violence shelters in the state.

Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cut all state funding to the shelters in July, meaning some have had to close and others have had to cut staff and services.

"I've decided to give all of the revenue from my upcoming California shows to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence," he said. "My hope is that by doing this I will enable domestic violence prevention workers to continue their work, and also encourage other people to step in and help raise funds for domestic violence prevention and care."
He added: "Domestic violence is equal parts prison and torture for many women, and my sincere hope is that we can step up and help to protect women in California and end domestic violence."

Moby will give the money from the gigs to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) which will then send the money to the shelters that most need it.
