As the ongoing global financial crisis makes itself felt in myriad ways, Moby has put his hand in pocket to help social services crippled by budget cuts.Moby has pledged the money from his three forthcoming Californian shows – San Diego (Oct. 12), Los Angeles (Oct. 14) and San Francisco (Oct. 15) – will be donated to domestic violence shelters in the state.
Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cut all state funding to the shelters in July, meaning some have had to close and others have had to cut staff and services.
"I've decided to give all of the revenue from my upcoming California shows to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence," he said. "My hope is that by doing this I will enable domestic violence prevention workers to continue their work, and also encourage other people to step in and help raise funds for domestic violence prevention and care."
He added: "Domestic violence is equal parts prison and torture for many women, and my sincere hope is that we can step up and help to protect women in California and end domestic violence."
Moby will give the money from the gigs to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) which will then send the money to the shelters that most need it.

Schwarzenegger and the Republican state senators are bad news. It the government's duty to protect citizens and to ensure their well-being. Schwarzenegger and the Republican state senators are not doing this. The funding priority for battered women shelters (BWS) should be the same as for prisons, because human life is at risk. Prisons keep the criminals and the murderers in, and BWS's keep the good people in, and the criminals and the murderers out. The Governor's illegal budget cuts, with the backing of big oil (Chevron Corp. of San Ramon), are very dangerous for women and children, who are victims of domestic violence, and it is sub-human. During a recession, with its higher unemployment, government funding for BWS's should be increased, not eliminated. Obviously, this budget picks-on the most vulnerable, and it endangers children. If a battered wife is murdered in front of a closed-down BWS, then, Schwarzenegger, his oil industry tyrants and the Republican state senators should be charged with first-degree murder.
