Little Boots Clears Up Tabloid Rumors
- Posted on Oct 8th 2009 4:00PM by Cam Lindsay
Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh, has been compared to everyone from Kylie Minogue to Goldfrapp to Donna Summer and well, every woman armed with a synth these days (hello Lady Gaga, La Roux and Ladyhawke).Though she's only been in the spotlight for a year or so, Little Boots has not only found herself become the toast of the blogosphere and receive rave reviews for her debut album 'Hands' (which will see a North American release in early 2010), she's also found herself being the subject of false rumors in the media.
At the age of 16, Hesketh auditioned for 'Pop Idol' (the original, UK version of 'American Idol') but didn't make it past the third round. Of course, Simon Cowell was both a judge and producer for the show, but despite his involvement, Hesketh never got the chance to perform for him -- contrary to what many news outlets reported
"I didn't actually meet Simon Cowell, so I wasn't rejected by him," she says with some annoyance in her voice. "I was rejected by a producer of the show after I got through about three rounds. It was really nothing, just one day of my life. I've auditioned for all sorts of stuff and this was just an opportunity I took. I don't think I ever wanted to win. I just wanted to try and meet some people who could have got me some connections that got me further into music. It was really not that big of a deal to me."
Being a north Englander, she found herself using the label of "cosmic 'Coronation Street,'" a reference to Britain's longest-running soap opera. While it's actually a pretty spot-on description for her bubbly dance pop, it's not actually one she coined.
"That wasn't actually me who said that, but I decided to write it on my MySpace page because I thought it was funny," Hesketh confesses. "I'm from Blackpool, which is close to Manchester, where 'Coronation Street' is based."
So, we hope that clears a few things up.

Is it me,or does she have a really noticeable lisp? Maybe she just can't speak plainly? Good voice but needs better diction.
