When Gordon Anderson left the Beta Band during the beta stage of that band's career, it was due to mental illness. Given the public curiosity something like that naturally sparks, many publications at the time diagnosed Anderson as a schizophrenic. Since then, he has repeatedly claimed that his ailment was neither schizophrenia nor the result of all the psychedelic drugs he had been taking. "I got very mentally ill," Anderson tells Spinner, plainly. "But that's been reported hundreds of times. You're better [off] Googling it." Good to know he's still got a healthy sense of humor.Anderson has recently returned to the public spotlight with his new band, the Aliens, featuring his old Beta Band mates, John Maclean and Robin Jones. The trio will release its second album, 'Luna,' in the US on Oct. 20 alongside a special limited-edition hardcover book that integrates the album with drawings, poems, film stills, photographs, interviews and more.
Looks like the Aliens are indeed some crazy reincarnation of the original Beta Band and it looks like they're really going for it this time. As for actual aliens, Anderson says he believes in those, too. "You think you're the only fish in the sea?" he asks. "A sea that cannot ever really end? An infinite? One planet among unfathomable amounts of stars, of which we could not ever count a number? Man, of course there [are aliens]. Mind you, I was looking at some diatoms and little aliens in my bed last night with my 200X microscope ..."
If you're confused, Anderson provided us with some examples. Take a look at the videos below to see his "aliens."
