Pete Doherty Hospitalized for Exhaustion

Pete Doherty was rushed to the hospital Monday night forcing the cancellation of three gigs in Ireland this week. The often-troubled Babyshambles frontman was having trouble breathing and is currently being treated for fatigue.

"Last night [Oct. 12] Peter Doherty was admitted to Swindon Hospital with exhaustion and breathing difficulties," a representative for Doherty announced Tuesday. "He is currently under observation by doctors."

Doherty has had a very active year, releasing his first solo album 'Grace/Wastelands' and performing constantly. Doherty -- who is currently at work on a new Babyshambles disc -- also reunited for one night with his former band the Libertines in April, which has sparked plans for a new album, now expected in 2011.

While there's no indication Doherty's hospitalization is due to drugs, the musician has had a history of abuse, visits to rehab and has even served jail time for his addiction woes. In June, Doherty was arrested after being caught driving drunk after a show, which also happened in the wake of an arrest for in-flight drug use. He is expected to stand trial on criminal charges in December.
