Music Theory: An Overview

Music Theory is essentially the learning and/or teaching of the language of music. It focuses on the bare bones of music from understanding notes (note reading), harmony, and basic pitch to rhythm skills, melody, scales, and all elements of music. With Music Theory, students are often taught by listening to music and written exercises until they grasp the fundamentals and analytical components of music. As is the case with learning an instrument, practicing only enhances the experience level.
