Edwyn Collins Gets Helping Hands for New Record

Edwyn Collins has been writing and recording material with a host of famous friends for his next album.

The album will be the second Collins has released following a brain aneurysm in 2005 that left the former Orange Juice singer fighting for his life.

Among the guests taking part on the album are Ryan Jarman from the Cribs, Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, Franz Ferdinand and the Magic Numbers.

Collin's wife and manager Grace Maxwell said he had been happy to get back into the studio.

"He's back song writing and recording again, it's incredible," she told B.B.C. 6 Music.

"One that he's done with Ryan [Jarman] Edwyn particularly loves, and that our son tells us is the most modern thing his father's done in years, is called 'What Is My Role' and there's another that Edwin says is northern soul crossed with punk and it's called 'I'm Losing Sleep'."

Collins is currently on tour in the UK with a backing band, the 1990s. Despite being able to sing just as well as before his illness, Collins can no longer play guitar, though Maxwell said he was enjoying playing live more than ever.
