Animal Collective Save Seals With PETA

Indie favorites Animal Collective have joined forces with PETA for a new ad campaign that hopes to put an end to the seal slaughter in Canada. Avey Tare, Panda Bear and Geologist appear in the print ad, which is also matched with an accompanying video.

"We all really like animals and seals, especially," Geologist (aka Brian Weitz) says in the clip, which also features disturbing footage of a seal being bludgeoned. Weitz, a former biology and environmental policy student, and his mates also encourage fans to choose cruelty-free clothing when buying their winter wardrobes.

In related news, the band is following up its acclaimed long-player 'Merriweather Post Pavillion' with a new five-song EP titled 'Fall Be Kind,' which drops on Nov. 9. The disc is notable because it includes the first-ever licensed sample of a Grateful Dead song on the track 'What Would I Want? Sky.'

Speaking about the track, which contains a snippet of the Dead's 'Unbroken Chain,' Avey Tare (aka Dave Portner) told Pitchfork recently, "The more I think about it, the more it blows my mind. It's a world I never thought, at least musically, I would be anywhere near. It's crazy ... Phil Lesh, who wrote the original Dead song, did listen to the track and was into it. That means a lot to me and the rest of the dudes in the band."
