Animal Collective Save Seals With PETA

Indie favorites Animal Collective have joined forces with PETA for a new ad campaign that hopes to put an end to the seal slaughter in Canada. Avey Tare, Panda Bear and Geologist appear in the print ad, which is also matched with an accompanying video.

"We all really like animals and seals, especially," Geologist (aka Brian Weitz) says in the clip, which also features disturbing footage of a seal being bludgeoned. Weitz, a former biology and environmental policy student, and his mates also encourage fans to choose cruelty-free clothing when buying their winter wardrobes.

In related news, the band is following up its acclaimed long-player 'Merriweather Post Pavillion' with a new five-song EP titled 'Fall Be Kind,' which drops on Nov. 9. The disc is notable because it includes the first-ever licensed sample of a Grateful Dead song on the track 'What Would I Want? Sky.'

Speaking about the track, which contains a snippet of the Dead's 'Unbroken Chain,' Avey Tare (aka Dave Portner) told Pitchfork recently, "The more I think about it, the more it blows my mind. It's a world I never thought, at least musically, I would be anywhere near. It's crazy ... Phil Lesh, who wrote the original Dead song, did listen to the track and was into it. That means a lot to me and the rest of the dudes in the band."

Fantastic! Well done for supporting the cause to stop this horific barbarity that the Canadian government actively supports and subsidises with our taxes. Not only are the seals not killed humanely, up to 40% are skinned alive, some staying alive and conscious for up to 10 minutes. Europe has banned the import of all seal products, let's hope that Canada will realise this slaughter has to end.

@ Hilary, I am truly amazed at the ignorance....some people still think seals are being slaughtered in a truly "nasty" way! I like your stats.do you live on an ice flow, or maybe your brain is on ice! Oh yes, and the Europeans are such a great example .......... anyone want to munch on a horse steak, or maybe help stuff a living goose until it explodes? Tasty pate though! Get a life............or maybe move to another planet.I here there is water on Mars, and no animals, so you will be happy!

Canadian skinning alive 40% of seals ?!!!! geeze! go out and read something about it before you go about supporting something that does'nt need it! You know what , just make sure your recycling bin is full and that paper is separated from plastic ok?!
Do you realize that while seals have never been an endangered specie, hunting quotas were lowered causing the seal population to increase significantly from around 1.8 million in the 70s to almost 6 millions since the late 90s? oh and don't worry cute little baby seals are not killed.
