As CMJ kicked off Tuesday, Spinner, Going.com an MyOpenBar.com held a show at Webster Hall featuring four excellent New York-area bands. The evening kicked off with DJ work by CSS multi-instrumentalist Luiza Sa, who mixed hip-hop and rock from different decades as fans filed in to the 1300-capacity venue. Brooklyn bands Beach Fossils and Woods played back-to-back sets in a smaller stage on the venue's stage right side, warming up the crowd with their catchy and unique brands of indie rock. While some audience members sat on couches in the general admission area during the opening sets, everyone was on their feet when New Jersey rockers Titus Andronicus took the main stage. A small throng at the front of the crowd bashed into each other as the band played tracks from their latest LP, 'The Airing of Grievances." Next up were headliners Here We Go Magic, performing songs from their self-titled debut album, which was released in February. Luke Temple and company's brand of indie showed why they count Sufjan Stevens and Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard among their fans.
