Beth Ditto's Autograph Request Denied by Bill Clinton

Long before she began making headlines of her own, Beth Ditto had a little brush with fame as a kid growing up in Arkansas. The Gossip frontwoman had an odd and unexpected run-in with Bill Clinton, back when the former president was still just governor of that state. Ditto explains that she was in the backseat of her family's pick-up truck, headed to a fish fry. "My hair is blowing out, all matted and nasty, there's food all over my face, my dad throws a cigarette out the window and it knocks me right in the head because I'm sticking my head out like that, of course," Ditto tells Spinner. "So I have this huge burn mark on my face and my hair looks like it hasn't been brushed in my life."Around that time, the Dittos pulled up to the fish fry. Shortly thereafter, a limousine drove up and Clinton steps out. Caught up in the frenzy of everyone around her clamoring for his autograph, little miss Ditto presented the future President of the United States a dollar bill that her grandpa had just given her and asked him to sign it.
According to Ditto, Governor Clinton looked down, patted her on the head and said, "I think that's illegal, darlin'."
This tale is one of many that Ditto plans to include in an autobiography she's currently hard at work on. Don't expect her to finish immediately, though, as the Gossip have just launched their tour in support of their major label debut, 'Music for Men.' When approached by fans, Ditto will gladly sign the CD, her book (once it comes out) and probably just about any other object you could present to her. We doubt she's as worried as the former president when it comes to autographs and legal technicalities.

I had the same experience last year when all I had was a dollar bill and I asked Bill Clinton to sign it and he said he could'nt because it was illegal. I told him George Brush Jr. did and he said he shouldn't have.

Defacing its Money in the USA is not allowed by the US federal governmen but, when they are not looking as evry kid puts a penny on a rail road track, the kid says it is ok. Who was lookin when slick willie was in our USA white house using a ciggar on Monaka?

Clinton was right, it is illegal. This is a non-story.
(Although George Brush is one of my favorite country singers)

I also had a similar experience. I asked President Lincoln to sign my penny, but he couldn't since he didn't know what a penny was.

I guess the point is that it is illegal to write on US currency?
Melat 10-22-2009
You are right Frank Barnard it is defacing currency especially if George "Brush Jr" signed it. I have a hunch he may have done a lot of dumb and wrong things. I was not aware he changed his name but is probably a good idea so no one knows who he is. George Brush was a perfect cover and would have fooled us all until you let out his secret. That may qualify as breaking the law too. Giving away government secrets and helping George Brush deface US currency? Shame on you! Don't worry though George will make up a story to get you both out of any possible trouble.

Clint Brush ~
"Non-story"? First of all, you use just made up a word, a stupid
word at that. Do you drive a non-car? Do you eat-non dinner? When
one means to say, "this is not a story," saying "non-story" is
incorrect.
Second of all, it is, in fact, a story. And one that you obviously
found interesting enough to read and comment upon.

Clinton only signs $100 bills. He's afraid of getting known as (One) Dollar Bill. He once signed a $2 bill and picked up a nickname he didn't like at all.
matthew calllanat 10-22-2009
AS long as the dollar isn't defaced in a manner to try to defraud (for example making a one look like a ten), it is perfectly legal to do anything you want to it...write on it, burn it, eat it. Haven't you seen those machines that make pennies into pancakes with pictures on them? Check out WWW.WHERESGEORGE.COM I deface money every day!!

It depends what your definition of "is" is.
Dennis O'Brienat 10-22-2009
I am taken aback that Billy Clintin refused to sign the bill. He has taken part in far worse undertakings. Thats a politition for you. Former President Bush may have broken the law, but at least he has testies.
I don't trust any politition, but I wish you better luck next time. Be safe and God bless.
