Dizzee Rascal was never going to let his appearance at the BBC Electric Proms be a run-of-the-mill affair. But even by his standards, Wednesday night's gig was a jaw-dropper.Thanks to a career-defining Glastonbury festival set and his team-up with Calvin Harris on the hit 'Holiday' in the summer, the pop charts are very much Mr Rascal's kingdom. But the East London rapper wasn't about to rest on those laurels. It was time for some experimentation.
Dizzee walked onstage at London's Roundhouse to a choral rendition of the line "He's just a rascal, Dizzee Rascal," which also included snatches of the Strokes' 'Reptilia' before playing 'Jus' a Rascal'
That was just the start, however. Dizzee also used the services of a full orchestra, a choir to flesh out 'Holiday' and rapped over Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.
Curio of the night, however, was the rendition of hit single 'Bonkers,' which featured a slide guitarist playing the song's trademark melody (see video below).
Dizzee also covered Rage Against the Machine's 'Bulls on Parade' to crowd-pleasing effect. The other Electric Proms artists now know where the bar is set.
