Eric Clapton has been forced to pull out of this week's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concerts at Madison Square Garden. According to his publicist, the 64-year-old guitarist, who recently had an operation to remove his gallstones, will instead be recuperating.Clapton's appearance this Friday at the second show of a two-night celebration in New York honoring the hall's 25th anniversary was expected to be one of the highlights of the extravaganza. Via his official Website, Clapton said he was "very sorry to disappoint the fans and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."
Spokespeople for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said Monday that they wish Clapton all the best and have announced that guitarist Jeff Beck will fill in for his part of the show. Clapton, who had been expected to share the bill with U2, Aretha Franklin, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Annie Lennox, says he remains committed to his 2010 concert schedule.

God bless and keep you Eric. You are loved by MOST of the world. Much gratitude to Jeff Beck for stepping in and covering for such an old friend, and Jeff probably should have been invited right along with Eric to perform at such a prestigious event. They go all the way back to the Yardbirds in the '60's and maybe even further. Both musical legends in their own right. Get well soon Eric!

Mr. Eric Clapton is and will always be one of if not the best guitar players of his time and nothing will take that away.

If God plays the guitar, He sounds just like Clapton. Get well soon, Slowhand.

You got that right! RUSH, Masterful Musicians!

RUSH?? My god they're not even in the same league as Ozzy much less Clapton. What's next, Triumph and Slayer? There must be a couple more 12 year-old's out there like that clown with the "crapton" comment. Here's a hint kiddies, when you hit 14 it will suddenly become clear to you.

True, Ozzy has worked with some very talented musicians, but today he is an incoherent buffoon. All he is fit for these days is to follow Sharon's dogs around with a paper bag.

Get well soon Mr. Slowhand, from having your gallrocks removed-instead of stones. he, he :) He is definitely a rock icon from his early days with the Yardbirds and beyond. I still feel sorry that he lost his young son so tragically from falling outside his NYC apt. window. His song, "Tears in Heaven," made me cry. Love your music EC.
