First Round of Cities for Lilith Fair 2010 Revealed

Sarah McLachlanEarlier this year, it was announced that Lilith Fair -- the all-female music festival founded by Sarah McLachlan -- would be resurrected after its denouement in 1999. On Tuesday, the first round of cities for Lilith Fair 2010 were revealed, including stops in New York, Los Angeles and for the first time, international locations such as London, with others to be announced.

"I can't reveal anything further now," Lilith Fair co-founder and Nettwerk CEO Terry McBride said in a statement, "but I can assure fans that we have some exciting announcements over the course of the following weeks, from confirmed artists to additional cities to innovative social initiatives. Lilith 2010 is very much upon us."

Lilith Fair's website underwent a complete redesign and was launched early Tuesday with the announcement. And yes, you can follow the fest on Twitter.

In 1997, Sarah McLachlan launched the all-female music festival, which became the top-grossing festival of that year and top-grossing female music festival of all time, featuring artists including Natalie Merchant, the Pretenders, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow and Missy Elliott, among many others.

When Spinner spoke to McLachlan last fall, she hinted at Lilith's possible return. "Never say never," she said. "For many years it was just flat-out 'Nope. No, can't even think about it.' But the longer time passes, it doesn't seem like an impossibility."

"I guess I was rather unprepared for the media onslaught and the sort of excitement that ensued from Lilith," she explained. "I had very simple goals. I wanted to put on a great musical show, and showcase all the amazing women that were coming up in music and not being represented in any other summer festivals. And certainly to have guys say, 'Oh, this isn't gonna work, putting 200 women on one bill,' fueled it, as well."

We betcha St. Vincent won't be on next year's bill.

Lilith Fair 2010 First Round of Cities:

    Atlanta, GA
    Boston, MA
    Calgary, AB
    Chicago, IL
    Dallas, TX
    Denver, CO
    Los Angeles, CA
    Minneapolis, MN
    Montreal, QC
    New York, NY
    Philadelphia, PA
    Portland, OR
    Seattle, WA
    San Francisco, CA
    Toronto, ON
    Vancouver, BC
    Washington, DC
    London, UK

Now, now, isn't that a bit narrow minded and prejudice??? Manhaters? Lesbians? Shame on you! How about a celebration of women? Prior to the onset of Christianity, pagan religions celebrated

just out of curiosity. why is it alright for this to happen when EVERYONE would go nutz if a man did the samething? i'll bet it's an AWESOME show, just curious why there's a double standard ALL the time.

I don't have a problem with the concert, attended one years ago and they had great acts. I always thought SM should have found a better name as Lillith was a stalker and the first instance of a vampire in our recorded literature....

This event is not just FOR women, it is just BY women. It is for both men and women who enjoy this great variety of music. SO those who think this is just a gay event, please do a little research

The shows were quite fantastic! I am really looking forward to the revival of them. I don't know if I agree that people would go nuts if a man did it. That is what most of the shows these days are anyway. And it's not a "gay" focus. If you look back, many, maybe most, of the performers were straight. But who cares?? It's great music and gives females the chance to stand out and be recognized for the talents they are. People need to get unstuck for paranoia in sexuality. (and for the record, I'm a straight women with 4 kids and 5 grandkids. not that that matters one little bit.)

Usually, overt homophobic douchewads like you are really insecure about your own sexuality and put down others to make it look like you're not like that, but deep down inside, you know what you are and that scares you.

Hey loser idiots- keep making your stupid anti feminist/gay stupido statements, because while you sit at home with your dummy guy friends, I'll be at the Lilith Fair meeting some really cool women,of which there will be many, and it will be great because there won't be a bunch of baffoons like you there.

I have the recording of the 1999 show. It was great. Don't judge the ladies to harshly. They are great singers. We can al agree one one thing from babies to grown men. The most beautiful thing in the world is a women.

Just when did this become a gay concert? I'm sure they are there, enjoying the music like everyone else. But please...There are alot of us who go just for great performers and their music. Get over yourselves and lets get it back, gay or not, who the hell cares. These women are the best of the best artist that are out there and want to bring women, no matter who, together because women RULE!!
