Mumford and Sons Overcome 'Grumpy' Instruments at Spinner HQ

Mumford and SonsUK folk rockers Mumford and Sons were only halfway through performing their first song, 'Little Lion Man,' when disaster struck in the form of a broken guitar string. Despite the incident, the band kept playing their blend of orchestral pop, folk and multi-part harmonies in Spinner's New York office. "If you've ever heard it's necessary to have six strings on a guitar," Marcus Mumford told us, "that's note true."

It wasn't the only bit of difficulty that the Brits had on their stateside visit for the CMJ music marathon. The band noted that their instruments were "a bit grumpy," which meant that they'd gone through two different mandolins already. Despite the difficulties, Mumford and Sons managed to impress both our staff and the audiences of CMJ this past week. While the instruments don't always cooperate, the band proves that even a broken string can't derail a great song.
