Carly Simon Sings for Boyfriend's Surgery Patients

Carly SimonWith longstanding fears of both performing and flying, a pop fan's chances of seeing singer Carly Simon belt out classics like 'You're So Vain' and 'Anticipation' have all but vanished. Unless, of course, you happen to be a patient of her Massachusetts-based surgeon boyfriend.

Simon, 64, has taken to accompanying her beau, laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Richard Koehler, in the operating room, where she says she soothes nervous patients by singing to them. In an interview with the New York Post, Simon reveals she dresses up in scrubs and a surgical mask and even takes requests from patients in advance of surgery.

"One of them asked for 'Haven't Got Time for the Pain,'" Simon explained. "I told them how much fun it was, and that I was going to be holding their hand when they woke up, too."

"And then I watched the surgery and everybody thought that I was going to be grossed out and have to be taken from the room on a stretcher," she added. "I wasn't at all. I was fascinated by it."

If that's not enough, Carly has even mustered up the courage to resume a performing schedule and will embark on her first-ever tour of Europe early next year. The trek comes in tandem with a comeback album, 'Never Been Gone,' which features unplugged takes of her best known songs.
