Snow Patrol Play Acoustic Gig in London Pub Basement

Snow Patrol played an acoustic gig in the basement of their local pub in London on Wednesday night (Nov. 4). Frontman Gary Lightbody and guitarist Nathan Connolly swapped stadiums for the cosy cellar of the King's Head in Crouch End, north London, to run through some of the tracks from their forthcoming best-of 'Up to Now," which is out on Monday (Nov. 9).

"Our record company wanted to call it 'Greatest Hits' [but one of our songs] went in at Number 89," Lightbody joked, the NME reported. "We suggested 'Best Of', which is pushing it. We're going to play our three best songs and then we're going to scrape the barrel!" The band started with a rendition of 'Crack The Shutters.'

Lightbody declared himself the "king of false starts" after stumbling over several of the songs. He added: "That was rubbish, forget everything, I hope everyone is drinking. It's better with a drink inside you!"

The duo were then joined by former Snow Patrol member Iain Archer on slide guitar and pianist/backing vocalist Miriam Kaufmann and played songs including 'Set the Fire To The Third Bar' and Reindeer Section's 'You Are My Joy.'

They also played a new song, 'Give Me Strength," which Lightbody dedicated to the band. "This song is about the guys in the band. Ten of our 15 years were shit. They were fun, but we didn't sell any records, so this is me saying thank you. Soppy isn't it?"

Please Snow Patrol, not all us Canadians need "catchy" tunes, come and play an intimate venue here in Hamilton, Ontario (or Toronto) and songs from Polar Bears or When Its All Over is fantastic. You guys are the best even before your "fame" stuff, in fact I like your "before fame" stuff better. Please play here, not some warmup to U2 or Coldplay. Hamilton, Ontario loves you from the beginning!!

Today is my birthday and I'm listening to your album "Final Straw" to celebrate. Love it! Would love to see you perform live in a small venue in Canada. Coming back anytime soon?
