Iggy Pop Says Stooges Will Resurrect Unrecorded Material

Iggy PopLook for the Stooges to record several old songs that were only performed live now that Iggy Pop and onetime guitarist James Williamson have reconciled. According to Iggy, he and Williamson -- who was a principal contributor to the group's 1973 album 'Raw Power' -- are itching to hit the studio to record the songs in advance of their 2010 tour plans.

"James Williamson is really hot to trot and there's a lot of old stuff that the Stooges failed to record," Iggy explained to BANG Showbiz. "We wrote a load of songs that we only ever played live, so I'm looking forward to doing some studio recordings."

After the Stooges dissolved, Williamson helped write and produce Iggy's early solo efforts like 1979's 'New Values' and 1980's 'Soldier' before the two became estranged. In the nearly 30 years that Iggy and Williamson were apart, the latter left the music business to become an electronic engineer and work in the computer industry. Williamson recently retired as Vice President of Technology Standards with Sony Electronics, Inc.

Last week Iggy, 62, was awarded the Living Legend award at London's Marshall Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards. As for being part of the classic rock genre with both the Stooges and as a solo act after years as a proto-punk outsider, Iggy said, "I snuck in first, it started about 10 years ago, and the Stooges are knocking on the door now. They're putting us in in-flight magazines and what have you, so we kinda bum rushed the thing and, I guess, here we are."
