Taylor Guitars: An Overview
- Posted on Nov 9th 2009 2:54PM by Adam Horne
Founded in 1973 by a then-18-year-old Bob Taylor, the company first started as American Dream, a small guitar shop which later became Westland Music Company after the owners' ambitions began to grow. The name 'Taylor' finally came about when the founders realized they needed a short, American sounding name for the guitars' headstock.
A number of famous musicians play or have played Taylor guitars, including Taylor Swift (who can be seeing playing Taylor guitar in a number of her music videos), Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews, and Jewel. The guitar company even gained viral fame on the web in the summer of 2009 after a United Airline employee smashed a passengers beloved Taylor, prompting him to write the Youtube smash 'United Breaks Guitars.'

Taylor Guitars are NOT produced in El Cajon, Mexico. They are produced in El Cajon, California. They have a sister plant in Tecate which produces their non-glossy guitars.
