Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, the men behind cartoon band Gorillaz, are hard at work on the follow-up to their acclaimed "circus opera" 'Monkey: Journey to the West.' The pair will team with acclaimed comic book author Alan Moore, who will write the lyrics for the production, 'Carousel.' "They came down to Northampton last week because we're planning for me to do the libretto on their next opera," Moore, whose works include 'Watchmen' and 'V for Vendetta,' told Mustard Magazine.
The news should delight those who followed Albarn and Hewlett's last production, which ran in 2008 at the London Royal Opera House and was also featured at the O2 Arena in January 2009. The hit play was also the impetus for the animated spots the pair did for the BBC's 2008 Beijing Olympics coverage.
Moore also hopes to get Gorillaz involved in the third issue of his new bi-monthly magazine/journal titled Dodgem Logic. "Being an opportunist, I asked them if they'd be prepared to contribute some pages to Dodgem Logic," Moore said. "Rather than just doing an interview, I thought it would be interesting to hand over a few pages for them to curate."
