We get a lot of writing contributions from artists here at Spinner, but few are as unique as the ones from Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, from Eels. After sharing 10 facts about his beard with us, the always-interesting artist sent over this blurb -- written in the third person, no less -- to preview his new song, 'Little Bird.' Check it out below. After a four-year wait for the Eels' 'Hombre Lobo' album, the band returns with another new record just months later. The first taste from the new Eels album, 'Little Bird,' finds Eels leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, recording himself playing all the instruments in his Los Angeles basement studio.
We tried to get him to talk about the album, but he said the subject matter is so personal that he doesn't want to talk about it. So we'll have to let the music do the talking this time. Hear 'Little Bird' now before the new album, 'End Times,' comes out Jan. 19, 2010.

I've been listening since the beginning and I always will. The way E's music makes me feel, hurt, laugh, and cry will always be special to me. Eels=love, life, sadness, pain, and sex. Thank you E!!

it DOES sound a lot like Grace kelly Blues.. but i'd rather have 2 similar great songs than two different bad ones.

Sounds nothing like Grace Kelly Blues.

well sorry, that's what i heard.
All i'm saying is, when the intro begins, sing along and say "a kid in the mall works at hotdog on a stick, his hat is a funny shape, his heart is a brick".
i'm a huge eels fan, but it just struck me as a coincidence..
it doesn't diminish E's capacities or anything.. Dylan, beatles,.. many prolific artists have similar works. could be called a signiture if you're being positive.
the chord progression and rythm in the first bars are too similar to objectively deny...
Play both songs and once and deny it (begin Gracey kelly at about the 28 sec. mark and play around with this song...

Chris
I am sorta with you, this does sound like an out-take from "Daisies".
Maybe "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations" was THE album. I didn't feel that Hombre Lobo pushed E on far enough and Little Bird sounds like the same formula
OK, all start screaming at me and stuff.

This one suits my mood perfectly... now I feel not so alone. Thanks E, come to Groningen soon?

Mark is such an amazing song-writer. I discovered his music 2years ago when I bought 'Meet the Eels, Essential Eels.' and now have nearly every album he has made with the exception of A man called E And Broken toyshop (out of print) one of my favourite Eels songs is on broken toy shop; Manchester Girl.
When I Found out Mark had A New album coming out it really made My day.
Thank You E.
