The Who Set to Rock Super Bowl Halftime Show

Another Super Bowl, another performance from a classic rock icon. Sports Illustrated is reporting this year's halftime spectacular will feature the Who. That's right -- Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and company will provide the musical fireworks when the game hits Miami on Feb. 7.Ever since the infamous Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake nipple fiasco in 2004, the NFL has gone with "veteran" acts and turned the reins over to one band or artist. Prior to that, there were often medleys and multiple acts, like No Doubt, Sting and Shania Twain in 2003 and the 2001 show that saw Aerosmith rocking 'Walk This Way' with Britney Spears and Timberlake.
The Who certainly fit the newer mold, proving worthy successors to the recent run of Paul McCartney (2005), the Rolling Stones (2006), Prince (2007), Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (2008) and this year's performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
With the matchup still far from decided, one thing is for certain -- a stadium of 80,000 people rocking out to 'Won't Get Fooled Again' will sound great no matter what.

i admit i am biased, but for those of you who haven't seen these guys live, give them a chance. best live band i have ever seen. not sure how they play to the "mass audience" like Bruce, U2, etc. irony to me is they are the safe pick. wow. two of original four are gone due to drug ods. they have been banned from entire hotels. will the old dudes put their middle finger up to "the man"? i know one thing, like a kid in a candy story i will be watching

KID to candy...quite an apt metaphor considering Townshends predalictions for the most vile form of child abuse.....

Looks like we're on our own, Paul, as these other morons brand Pete as a child abuser even though it was proven he wasn't. He was researching and voluntarily gave his pc to the police for inspection and there was no down-loaded porn. He also contacted his solicitor before accessing the site and told him what he intended to do although he was advised against. The Butler report is a witch-hunt and full of un-truths. Why don't they find the members of Blairs cabinet whos names were on the list of people who had paid to look at child porn (and Blair covered this up!) and guess where the site was? Yep, good old USA! Before you plunge your knives of ignorance into innocent people, maybe you should clean up your own acts and country first.

I agree 100% with Judd.
America has become "A Nation of Idiots" after the eight years of Bush/Chenney administration. What a shame!

SLOW DOWN WITH THE CANDY INUENDO'S...THAT WAS NEVER PROVEN,, AND HE WAS DOING RESEARCH,, AFTER ALL HE WROTE TOMMY,, QUAD,, IRON GIANT MUSICAL,, HE HAD A TOUGH CHILDHOOD,, AND HE WAS SWINGING THE RICKENBACKER BEFORE MOST OF YOU WERE ON MOM'S TEET.. GIVE THE MAN A BREAK,, HE LOST TWO OF HIS BAND MATES AND PULLED MOST OF YOU WHITE PUNKS ON DOPE THRU THE 70 AND 80'S..

As if a convicted child molester would be invited to play halftime...if there was any possible link to such a crime, any chance Pete was even suspicious of this, he would be banished. It is unthinkable and stunning that some people are still so bloody stupid, but I must remember, they still burn crosses down there and thrive on dogfighting...so it should be no surprise. Pete was a victim of a witch hunt, proven innocent but still scorned by a few morons. An injustice that continues courtesy of those with severely limited intelligence.

I love how a story celebrating a rare performance by a definitive rock icon somehow engenders the base discussion found here. Only in America, folks. Anyway, I'll be happy if Pete Townsend can swing that arthritic arm around the guitar, and Roger Daltry's aging vocal chords can come close to managing "the scream" in Don't Get Fooled Again. I've got my fingers crossed and I'm rooting for them. Rockers may get old, but Rock Never Dies!
