The XX's Baria Qureshi Leaves Band For Good

The XX have revealed that their guitarist/keyboard player Baria Qureshi has left the band for good. She will not be replaced.

In October the band was forced to play their biggest London date -- at the Village Underground venue -- as a trio when Qureshi (pictured second from left) pulled out. Several European shows were then cancelled as a result of her absence.

The band's Oliver Sim told the Stool Pigeon paper that the remaining members are "ridiculously sad" about Qureshi's departure. He said, "It's just been a case of, I suppose growing apart. It's a big jump from 13-years-old to 20. I think we've just grown into different people and I don't believe touring was for her, really."

Despite this the band is determined to turn the set back into a positive. "I'm quite looking forward to seeing what spawns from here," Sim said. "For the first time in a long time we sat and worked, jamming in a rehearsal space trying to build the live set again and have moved a bit further away from the album, after a stage of just reciting it.

"I feel like we're going somewhere else now -- being a bit more creative, trying to put on a bit more of a show."

The XX are currently touring the US and return to Europe for more dates in December. A full European tour starts in Jan. 2010.
