It's no secret that Dave Grohl loves him some Led Zeppelin. Most notably, he's invited Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to jam with his Foo Fighters, which eventually led to the formation of Them Crooked Vultures with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme. But this love affair hasn't been a recent thing by any means. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl reveals that when he was 16, he carved John Bonham's triple-circle 'ZoSo' logo into his body. He even went as far as getting it enhanced with different color ink to give off the appearance of a pro-job. His second tattoo -- also of the Bonham logo -- was done by a guy in an illegal Amsterdam squat who used a tattoo gun made out of a doorbell machine. It wasn't until Grohl got his first significant Nirvana paycheck the he could really get some quality inking, and he opted yet again to get Bonham's logo on another part of his body. "Kurt and I were living with each other in Olympia," he told Rolling Stone. "The place was so depressing. I took the $400 and bought a Nintendo, a BB gun -- mind you, I was 21, not 12 -- and got that tattoo. One of my fondest memories of living in that rat-s----hole apartment was buying a dozen eggs at the A&P, bringing them to Kurt's backyard, and me and Kurt and Buzz [Osbourne] from the Melvins shooting at the eggs. Those were the days."
There you have it, kids. The days of shooting eggs and getting the same tattoo, not once but thrice. Them Crooked Vultures eponymous debut is out this week on Interscope and you can still stream the whole thing right here. They'll play a special release show Monday at the Roxy in Los Angeles.
