Beloved indie rockers Rogue Wave are back in action. The Oakland band has finalized 'Permalight', which was recorded this year in Oxford, Miss. with veteran producer Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Cracker, Elvis Costello). In support of the new disc, which drops on March 2, 2010, the band has booked an extensive spring tour which gets underway in Boston one day prior to the album's release. As with its predecessor, 2007's 'Asleep at Heaven's Gate,' Rogue Wave's latest will surface on Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records. According to Pitchfork, the disc will include titles like 'Good Morning,' 'Stars and Stripes,' 'Per Anger' and the title track.
In related news, the PBS series Independent Lens has been airing the documentary 'D Tour,' which chronicles drummer Pat Spurgeon's struggle with kidney failure. Spurgeon was born with one kidney, which started to deteriorate when he was in junior high school.
Although Spurgeon received a kidney transplant 12 years ago, that kidney has started to fail. Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, and Nada Surf are among the musicians who appear in the film, which traces the drummer's challenging pursuit of a matching living organ donor. In support of the project, Rogue Wave has made a new song from the film, titled 'Positive Hero Worship,' available as a free download here.
