Sir Paul McCartney's trophy cabinet is no doubt rather cluttered. But the former Beatle will have to make a little more room. He's about to become only the third musician to be awarded the Gershwin Prize For Popular Music. The prize is awarded by the US Library of Congress. The two previous recipients are Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. Simon was given his prize by US President Barack Obama in February of this year.
Speaking about the forthcoming award, Librarian Of Congress' James H Billington said Sir Paul's lasting effect on popular music was what had made him stand out, the New York Times said.
"It is hard to think of another performer and composer who has had a more indelible and transformative effect on popular song and music of several different genres," he said.
Sir Paul, 67, won't be accepting the award without a tune or two. An all-star tribute concert is expected to take place next spring to mark the honour.

I am glad I actually got to see him in concert here in DC this past August and will definitely will try to go this ceremony if it's open to the public...

Your information is wrong - Stevie Wonder got the price this year, not Paul Simon. He got it the year before - and so not from Obama
