Matt and Kim Discuss Nudity and Underwear at the mtvU Woodies
Matt and Kim's music video for 'Lessons Learned' proves that the indie pop duo is pretty comfortable with their bodies. However, it had to take some convincing and a few foot massages from singer and keyboardist Matt Johnson to get his girlfriend -- and the band's drummer -- Kim Schifino to strip down to nothing in Times Square."You get anything you want that way, fellas," Johnson told Spinner at the mtvU Woodie Awards. "I thought that song is liberation through hitting rock bottom, and I thought like not caring anymore was just taking all your clothes off in probably the most public place in United States."
When Matt and Kim are onstage and fully clothed, the two play an energy-packed set that leaves hyped even after hours after they've performed. So what gets them pumped? A little dance, some Red Bull and Schifino sports a particular type of underwear at each gig. "It's a little boy-cut [underwear] so I don't wedgies while I'm playing," she said.
After an amped performance and a Best Video trophy at the Woodies on Wednesday night, Matt and Kim will be heading on their European tour starting Nov. 21 in Birmingham, UK. And with the band's growing popularity, Matt and Kim hope that it never ends because they're not too sure what they'd do next. "I have no idea [what we would do] so we can't f--- this up," Schifino said. "I'm going to try to do this as long as possible."
Check out Matt and Kim performing 'Lessons Learned' at the mtvU Woodies by tuning into the broadcast at 10 PM on Dec. 4 on MTV.
