Following his impromptu white-flag appearance at Joe Perry's solo show in New York last week, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler says he is taking time off from the band, but insists it's no big deal.A rep for Tyler tells the press that the lead singer's hiatus from Aerosmith won't be substantial.
According to the rep, Tyler is merely recovering from a shoulder injury and is also using the time to work on his autobiography.
Tyler suggested several weeks ago that he would be focusing on his solo career and "Brand Tyler" more in the future, but since then, he has tried to quell rumors that Aerosmith is splitting up or replacing him.
Rumors of a split were largely sparked by interviews with guitarist Joe Perry. Perry openly expressed frustration after the band had to reschedule a number of summer tour dates due to two injuries sustained by Tyler.
Tyler's current shoulder injury stems from a fall off the stage during a gig in August, which forced the band to reschedule several dates. Before that, he pulled a leg muscle, which also resulted in several missed shows.
In September, Perry declared that Tyler needed "to get his act together." Following several weeks without contact with Tyler, Perry told the Las Vegas Sun that "as far as I can tell" Tyler "has quit" the band.
But Tyler showed up at Perry's solo show in New York City Nov. 10 in an apparent gesture that all was well with Aerosmith. The pair performed 'Walk This Way' together and Tyler declared that he was not quitting the band.
But Perry suggested two days later that Tyler wants the band to take a break in its singer's absence.
"He wants to take two years off from the band," Perry told Rolling Stone. "The rest of the band wants to keep on working. We have so many different options to fill up that time. Anything is possible at this point."

I feel the sum is greater than it's parts - especially with Aerosmith. That spark takes all of its members, Brad, Tom, Joey, Joe and Steven. Without all together it's just not enough. Don't forget all are equal contributors to this incredible essence that we have enjoyed for 40 years. We have been spoiled by such remarkable sound that now nothing can ever surpass. Its a synchronicity. Egos are impermanent. Music is ever lasting. Please don't take it away with anger.

you might say that it "Aint' Enough" to have the band with a new lead singer, but you never know. It is possible, after all, that joe, joey tom and brad are smart enough to make a good decision on a new singer. we just have to wait and see.

A broken shoulder is very painful, speaking from experience. Took me almost a year to fully recover from mine. Take your time Steven, you'll be back---but treat your band and your fans properly please---ROCK ON!!!!
