Rolling Stones Reissue 'Wild Horses' After Susan Boyle's 'X-Factor' Performance

The Rolling Stones have released a new digital package of their 1971 hit 'Wild Horses.' The reissue comes after a performance of the song on the 'X Factor' TV show on Sunday (Nov. 22) by 'Britain's Got Talent' finalist and YouTube sensation Susan Boyle.

Boyle has recorded a version of the song for her debut album 'I Dreamed a Dream' which was released yesterday (Nov. 23). 'Wild Horses' is the opening track on the album.

The Stones release features the original song alongside a version recorded for the band's 1995 album 'Stripped' and a video featuring a live performance of the song at Knebworth in 1976.

Whether the decision to release the original is in direct competition with Boyle's is yet to be confirmed.

I think Susan Boyle is the best thing to hit the music world- everyone's world. She gave us hope that our dreams can come true too, even if we are middle aged and overweight. I think people would buy her CD if she just stood there and sneezed! Give her a break. She has sold over 6million CD's. Must be doing somehing right

The songwriters of this beautiful song are Mick and Keith and SuBo honours and celebrates their genius! For lovers of Wild Horses do also listen to the cover by The Sundays ... sheer magnificence! Songs covered like this are a tribute to their songwriters. And so they should be.

I think that Susan’s cover of “Wild Horses” is one of the best things about the whole album. She could do a whole disc of rock cover tunes and it would be amazing. Did anyone hear about the Susan Boyle special on the TV Guide channel Sunday the 13th? Here’s a link to a clip for it: http://www.tvguide.com/special/susan-boyle/

Why does it need to be a competition? There are lots of versions of this song around; some good, some pretty awful. Surely there's room for one more. I prefer the original, but that's personal taste; doesn't mean no-one else can do a good job of it.

As for covers, and ephemeral; there was plenty of adverse comment when the Stones recorded Under the Boardwalk.

But guess which one will sell the most!....yes SB version...which sums up the ephemeral and shallow nature of pop music...as said by Dave (the) Dick

I am sure the stones are laughing all the way to the bank when the royalties start coming in. A great song is a great song. However who covers it is an issue, Daniel O Donnell covers spring to mind here when he covers songs he certainly knows how to turn a classic into mediocre trash.

Theres no competition...musically the Stones own song is sung with soul, real feeling for what the song is about...

Susan Boyle sings beautifully but turns it into light opera...all style, little substance...

I don't see there's any competition. I hope Susan's Boyle's new version brings new interest to the Rolling Stones' new and old version and their music. It's a great thing that people hear this great song that might not hear it otherwise. The way I see it, it's all good. Mick and Keith are going to be very happy with their fat royalty check from Susan Boyle and Susan has taken a great song and given it some new life. It can never replace the original, however.

Susan Boyle is not an opera singer, nor does she sing opera. She's what's called a "legit" singer, in other words, a "real" singer.

I have always loved The Rolling Stones but I've got room for Susan Boyle too.
