Legendary London venue The Halfmoon is set to become another victim of the current harsh economic climate. According to the its owners, the venue will cease promoting gigs after Jan. 31 next year. The venue's sound engineer Redvers Bailey spoke of his affection for the venue saying: "I can't think of many venues I've been to which can cater for professional touring bands and rising unsigned bands and are willing to treat the two no differently."
He added: "Speaking as a band member I'd say I haven't played at any 200-capacity venue that offers as good sound/lighting production, atmosphere and door deal."
The Putney-based pub venue has been active since 1963 and since its doors first opened and has hosted gigs by the Rolling Stones (pictured), Kate Bush, the Small Faces as well more contemporary acts such as Kasabian and Badly Drawn Boy.
Playing an intimate solo show there three years ago, singer Jim Reid quipped: "If this was billed as the Jesus and Mary Chain, I'd be playing Hammersmith Odeon tonight!"
