Kid Sister Debuts 'Ultraviolet' to Hometown Crowd

During a Thanksgiving Eve show at the House of Blues in Chicago, burgeoning MC Kid Sister (née Melisa Young) performed songs from her debut album, the long-anticipated 'Ultraviolet,' to an enthused hometown crowd.

Before she hit the stage, Flosstradamus, her brother's local mash-up group, warmed up the packed dancefloor with a diverse mix of popular hip-hop song snippets.

"I'd like to introduce my sister and your sister," Kid Sister's younger brother Josh Young then announced to Chicagoans.

Wearing a slinky metallic dress, Sister raced onstage and busted into her bombastic first single 'Right Hand Hi' while her brother added additional vocals and DJ Autobot worked the decks with pre-recorded samples. Two dancers dressed in black spandex leotards and chrome face masks twirled and danced beside the charismatic Sister, who strutted back and forth across the stage and incited the crowd to throw their hands up in the air.

Kid Sister sang electrifying newbies 'Get Fresh,' '54321,' 'Switch Board' and 'Life On TV' but also performed a swath of older, non-album singles that included 'Telephone,' 'Damn Girl' and 'Beeper.'

Halfway through the set, house musician Green Velvet joined Sister in a duet of their recent collaboration, 'Everybody Wants.' "I've been a fan of his since I was 12-years-old," Kid Sister cooed to the crowd.

While rapping 'Let Me Bang 2009,' she took advantage of the receptive crowd and allowed a male audience member to come onstage and grind with her. Like a true diva in the making, Sister briefly exited the stage for a quick costume change and came back adorned in a black sequined unitard. She threw off her uncomfortable shoes and complimented the people in the balcony wearing glow-in-the-dark nails.

After she performed the catchy 'Control,' she finally indulged the audience with her breakthrough hit, the Kanye West-assisted 'Pro Nails.' Kid Sister's brother took over West's vocal duties as vintage beauty commercials flickered on the screen behind them.

The night came full circle when Kid Sister ended her set on the opening line of 'Right Hand Hi:' "Hi I'm Kid Sister / I'm stacking money," she sang, acknowledging her swift trajectory to national stardom.
